Jarvis Creek General Store

Hudson’s Seafood House on the Docks
Nestled in the shade of one of the most giant mossy oaks I've ever seen, is Jarvis Creek General Store. Pulling into the parking lot you hear the crunch of the gravel under your tires and the smell of the smoke coming from the oak wood fire. The porch lights of the front door establish a home feel before you even enter.
The first time this place caught my eye was on Super Bowl Sunday. They had a huge pig roast! From what I hear, that pig went fast!
The coolest General Store on the West Side is a great spot for grabbing a beer and hanging by the fire with a few friends. Cold beer is on tap and a selection of wines is also available.
My first visit I grabbed a Coke and a Roast Beef Sandwich for the ride home. But it was tempting to just sit by the fire and chill.
On the same campus is a spot for a food truck. May River Food Truck group has a big variety of gourmet on wheels.
There are 4 GIANT TV's outside offering a view of whatever sports event is on. March Madness is offered for the whole month. And baseball season is already on us. Bring a chair. The Adirondacks fill up quick. Especially when they host a local musician on their outdoor stage.
This is one of the coolest new businesses on the island. I'd go as far as to say, this is one of the coolest new business concepts. Stop and see for yourself.

I've been to Hilton Head so many times I've lost track. But one place on the island that continues to call me back is HarborTown. Located in the SeaPines area of Hilton Head, Harbor Town is the pearl of of SeaPines village.
The Quarter Deck is the Pearl of Harbor Town. Its perched on the west facing bluff 2 miles north of Braddock Point. I entered through the cafe' which I think is brand new. There's ice cream, coffee and some other good snacks right there at the end of the dock!
I checked in with the maitre d' and she led me upstairs to a beautiful table just inside the function room. Every seat has a view of the harbor in the restarant. The teak wood is framed exquisitely with a whale bone white trim that reminded me of the old scrimshaw artifacts from back in Nantucket and Marthas Vineyard. Whaling was prevalent by the early settlers, until strict regulations were adopted as recently as the early 1900S.
What I ADORE about the Quarter Deck is that there is not a single Television in the entire restaurant. There's no noise in the background, no disagreements at the bar. There's amazing conversation with patrons and locals creating new connections and sharing stories of their adventures either by boat, plane or car.
I had a salad, with edamame, noodles, salmon, black beans, avocado, and then some. I added blackened salmon. Cooked perfectly.
The key lime cheesecake, was a hybrid between key lime pie and cheese cake. It's made right across the harbor at the bakery. Not as dense as a typical cheesecake. It's airy and big and delicious.
The service was impeccable, the view was spectacular, and the food was amazing. Every time something was presented to the patron, there was no room for improvement. The seats were comfortable, the tables were spacious, the view was stunning.
The best part was the people. It stands to reason, that if you provide the tools to offer the best product, the best people come running to work with you and do so in unwavering joy.
Check out the Quarter Deck. I've never been disappointed.

Recently I headed out to Hilton Head. Planning on walking towards part of my 62 mile charity walk. However the rain came down hard. It usually doesn't stop me, but the proximity of the lightning strikes was of concern. I found safe shelter at one of my favorites on Coligny Beach, The Sand Bar.
I like The SandBar because they keep it simple. Their menu is beachy and has something for everyone. There's plenty of outdoor seating and lots of indoor airconditioned seating as well.
Cool music, at a comfortable volume. And a very friendly staff.
I had the smoked salmon sandwich, fries and some dessert after. It was perfectly prepared. Cold stuff was cold and the hot stuff was hot.
Super fun restaurant!

HUDSONS ON THE DOCKS

Welcome to a place that feels like your hometown bar.
After a long walk on Coligny Beach, I sat in the car in the parking lot thinking where to go. There's so many places. I decided on Hudson's.
I hadnt been since before the dock was built. This place is great! The staff is friendly, the music is excellent, and the view is amazing.
The food!? OMG I had the grilled shrimp tacos and some fries. Key Lime Pie for desert.
My drink was in an aluminum cup by Ball(the mason jar folks). What a difference that made on a hot day. Aluminum is a cold soak. And boy does it work! Colder means the ice doesn't water down your beverage. Colder means it's refreshing and aluminum is infinitely recyclable and biodegradable thought it was a heartfelt detail of a restaurant so close to the water.
If your someone that cries when you see your beaches dirty, you're my people.
The patrons were all super friendly too. This skull creek area is in my soul. Just love it there.
Hudson's has tons of parking. Right on Squire Pope Road, very short drive from Coligny Beach!
SO WORTH IT!

Dining on the beach!!!!
Hilton Head Island is known the world over for its manicured beaches and golf courses, its marinas and harbors. And especially its world class chefs and restaurants.
Walking along the beach, I stopped and talked to a nice woman. I asked her, "is that a private restaurant?" To which she said, "no, that's The Dune House." It's open to the public.
I finished my hike and jumped in the car. It was a short drive from Coligny Beach. Into the Palmetto Dunes area. I passed by the General Store(literally has everything) and the well groomed golf course. Over a couple of bridges and into the palm sheltered lot.
Here's the cool thing about this place. You can get there by bicycle, walking on the beach or driving. There's lots of parking and a giant bicycle rack.
It's a very basic place that is in an excellent location. It has easily one of the largest outdoor beach side dining decks on the island.
It's casual. I was there in a tee shirt and FlipFlops. Most folks were in what I call golf attire.
Super cool bar. And a great menu. I had the seared ahi tuna roll up and some frozen grapes. A very refreshing combo. I could have sat there all day. Very cool waitstaff, chill music and a great menu.
Check it out.
