Stranded on a Desserted Island

The Quarterdeck HHI

Jimmys Seaside Sweets - Tybee

The Sugar Shack - Tybee

The Quarterdeck - HHI

The Ice Cream Stop - Pooler

When I write these articles, my mind wanders into different tributaries off the river of story direction I can take. Like, when was the first time mankind had dessert!? Did cave men have a side of Armadillo after a full plate of Wooly Mammoth? I mean....there had to be humans in the dinosaur ages.....The Flintstones are living proof!

I guess, what I'm saying is....if I'm saying anything at all......how did we go from dinosaur to key lime pie. I have some research to do.

Every time I go out to eat, I never leave room for dessert. This is the premise of this short story of my latest sugar binge. If you go to Tybee, leave room for desert. same can be said for Bluffton, Hilton Head and Savannah. There are these buildings out there......made......just for dessert!!! That's all they serve; some have pastries, and cakes. Some have ice cream and candy. It's like the whole town said, how can we make Sir Willy Wonka proud(I'm assuming he was knighted). Wonka would be proud of the factory on River Street as well.

I've been doing a lot of beach walking lately. And in the hot days of August, it's tough to cool off....even in the 84 degree water. So.....I mean....you HAVE to eat ice cream.....it's for safety reasons....prevents heat stroke.

After a particularly long walk, I ended up cooling my brain to thinking temperature under the rinse off shower in the Tybee parking between Tybrisa and the Strand. I'm thinking.....this will dry off in minutes.

And....it's also lunch time. So I wandered into Jimmys Seasides Sweets. He hooked me up with the Salted Praline and Caramel delisciousness in a dish.....with 3 napkins(it was 94º outside).

Jimmy's Seaside Sweets is right off the beach......, tons of sugary sweetness and lots of cold soft drinks to choose from. Park in the lot or right on Tybrisa.

Since I had ice cream for lunch at "Jimmys Seaside Sweets." My next stop on this desserted island had to be The Sugar Shack. I've been dying to come in and sit in the ice cream cone seats and listen to the cool music.

The two lady's there were so kind. I could tell they loved meeting all the new and regulars that came through.

I was aiming for the flavor of the week...Key Lime Pie...but it was sold out.....

Still wanting something a little citrusy I asked for a recommendation. Lemon sorbet in a waffle BOWL!!!! So awesome.

There is something about the place that I just love. It feels like they're as much into the sweetness of the people as they are into the sweetness of the dessert. I find this a frequent personality of the folks on Tybee.

The Sugar Shack is right on the main road(80) going towards the pier. It's nearly impossible to miss.

The Quarter Deck

Harbor Town

This one is self explanatory. For the record, occasionally, I drive an hour and 20 mins.....just for this.

Bring a friend, it's a big desert.

If you're trying to switch things up or getting bored of my recipe blog, go out just for desert, and if you can fit it, have lunch or dinner when you're done.

The Quarter Deck is one of the most spectacular eateries I've visited. It's a rare opportunity to dine overlooking a PGA golf course and a harbor while watching the sun set. They do not rest their laurels on their premier appointment.

Being served is a formal description all too often used to describe a wait staff. Above and beyond the experience of the sommelier, the chef and the mixologist, there is something special about how they comfort their guests here. It's like being welcomed into a friends home.

The Quarter Deck is a don't miss. It's like the hug of my dining experiences in the south so far. I adore their kindness.

I'll be adding more and more to Stranded on a Desserted Island. This is a really fun one to write.....testament to having dessert first!

....stay 'tooned!!

The Ice Cream Stop

Well this is a tough one. Where to get ice cream in Pooler. There are so FEW places.

Well The Ice Cream Stop is the cure to your sugar fix! A quick easy detour to treat the kids or yourselves after a run to the the new Generator Shop. If you're at Mavis getting your tires or brakes done, mosey on over for a frozen bowl of your favorite flavor.

Doctors recommend a well balanced diet, so make sure you have one in each hand....over 2 scoops gets heavy. :)
